Wright wants "Big Bang" finale

Snakebite aims for Aberdeen glory

PETER WRIGHT is ready to go out with a “big bang” in Aberdeen despite suffering from a lethal vomiting bug.

The Livingston-born ace ends his miserable Premier League campaign at the P&J Live tonight (Thursday), facing Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals.

Wright, 53, won the Czech Open at the weekend but has since been violently ill en route to Scotland. But he is still vowing to throw well and not throw up for the Dartan Army.

He said: “I’m not feeling great at all. My wife Jo and I came back from the weekend with norovirus, suffering from diarrhoea and puking at the same time.

“I was looking forward to getting back on the board after a good win at the weekend. I’ve managed to throw nine darts and that’s it so far, I’m knackered and the body is killing me.”

Wright is stuck at the bottom of the league after a campaign to forget with just five wins in 14 weeks.

He has clearly been affected by a string of off-stage issues with his wife Jo and father-in-law suffering major health problems.

But, remarkably, he can still move up two places in the table with a win in front of home fans.

He added: “It’s not been the best preparation at all. But maybe I can go out with three out of three wins over Gezzy in the Premier League, that would be nice!

“I just want to go out on a win. I can still get off the bottom of the table, that would be OK I guess. But the main thing is to get a win for the Scottish fans, that’s all that counts.

“If I can win on the night and that means I get off the bottom, then so be it. But I just want to end on a high and give the fans something to sing about.

“At this moment I just hope I can feel much better. It’s been a tough week so far.

“I’m looking forward to all the fans coming out to watch the darts. I just want to get up there and finish off the Premier League with a big bang and a win for Scotland. That’s my plan anyway.

“It just hasn’t happened in the Premier League this year. But if you look at who I’ve beaten in the league, it’s been the top guys.”

Nathan Aspinall faces a shoot-out with Jonny Clayton for the last qualifying place for Finals night.

But he revealed that Gary Anderson has helped him in the run-in for the O2.

He said: “I had chat with Gary in Belgium and he's helped me - he doesn't help many people but he's helped me!

“I've found something and I played really well at the weekend, probably one of the best tournaments I've played this year and I'm confident.

"I'm happy where my game's at, and I'm not going to give it to Jonny. I'm going to leave everything on that stage on Thursday night, and if I play like I can and like I played at the weekend, I'll take some stopping.”

Sky Sports, 7pm. Quarter-Finals, order of play: Gerwyn Price v Peter Wright, Jonny Clayton v Nathan Aspinall, Michael Smith v Dimitri Van den Bergh, Michael van Gerwen v Chris Dobey.
