Gavere and Zonhoven hosted UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup

10 January 2023

The 11th round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup rolled in to Gavere in Belgium on Monday, 26 December 2022. Toyo Tires is the main partner of this offroad bicycle championship which is broadcast across Europe on TV2 Sport, Eurosport and Rai Sport+. The UCI World Cup pushed off in the USA in October, and following several rounds across America and Europe arrived, for the first time ever to host a round, in Gavere.

Toyo Tires have been main partner of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup for two years having partnered with Cyclo-cross racing in Belgium and the Netherlands before this.

In the Men’s elite race in Gaverre, Mathieu van der Poel took the win with Wout van Aert second and world champion, Tom Pidcock rounding out the podium.

In the Women’s Elite class, Shirin van Anrooij and Puck Pieterse had a thrilling duel for the first place with the honours going to van Anrooij. Pieterse took third strep on the podium after equipment failure allowed Lucinda Brand to snatch second.

Fast forward two weeks to January 8, and the tour reached Zonhoven in the East of Belgium. The 12th round of the UCI World Cyclo-cross Cup was also won by Shirin van Anrooj in the ladies elite class while Wout van Aert went one better than his last outing taking first place in Zonhoven.

Toyo Tires continue as main partner with races in Benidorm, Besançon and Hoogerheide still to contest. The 2022/2023 champion will be crowned following the final race at Hoogerheide, in the Netherlands on February 5.
