Victory at Rallye Maroc
18 October 2024
Toyo Tires proudly supplied their Open Country M/T R tyres, made from sustainable materials, to Team Land Cruiser Toyota Autobody (TLC) during the Morocco Rally 2024, which took place from 4th to the 11th October. The team’s Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport vehicles clinched class victories in this prestigious African rally raid.
The victories were achieved in two competitive classes. The #500 car, driven by Ronald Basso, secured the stock class win in the FIA event, while Akira Miura's #701 car triumphed in the Open Auto class of the national event, both held simultaneously on the challenging course.
The Moroccan Rally is part of the World Rally-Raid Championship, recognized as the highest level of off-road rally-raid competition governed by the FIA. This event serves as a critical precursor to the Dakar Rally, which occurs every January, allowing drivers to make final adjustments to their vehicles and tyres ahead of the competition in Saudi Arabia.
Supporting TLC’s quest for a 12th consecutive Dakar Rally stock class championship, the Open Country M/T-R tyres were specifically designed to provide exceptional traction on rugged terrains, including heavy sand dunes.
Rallye Maroc featured a demanding course of 2,468 racing Km across five challenging stages, testing the endurance and skill of participants. Miura and Basso expertly navigated the gruelling conditions, earning victories in their respective classifications.
Toyo Tires leverages the experience gained from competing in harsh off-road environments to enhance the development of tyres for pickup trucks and SUVs. The insights gained through racing inform product development, ensuring higher performance, superior quality, and globally appealing products.
