Tsukuba Drift

22 June 2023

This weekend, Toyo Tires will be at Tsukuba Drift. The event, the 3rd and 4th rounds of the DIGP series, is a sell out, with all tickets for the event now snapped up by drift fans. Starting on Saturday, June 24, and running though to Sunday, 25 June at the Ibaraki Circuit, north of Tokyo, the team will be drifting in front of a full house.

Team Toyo Tires drivers, Hideyuji Fujino, currently 7th on the leaderboard and last year's series runner up, Masato Kawabata will be looking to break the dominance of the D-Max team who stand P1 and P2 after the first two rounds. The course set will be the same as in 2021, when D1GP last visited Tsukuba, starting at the final corner and continuing to the first hairpin. However, this year course will offer new challenges as the layout will change with drivers needing to place their cars in differnt positions as they negotiate the track.

Cars will make their solo runs (tanso), from around 10 o'clock on saturday to establish the top 16 drivers to go through to the Tsuiso, twin car, round which kicks off at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. After competing in round 3, the drivers are back the next day for more of the. same in round 4 on Sunday.

Also running on Toyo tyres, is Yukio Matsui, who starred last time D1GP was in Tsukuba in 2021, winning the solo drift and placing second in the twin drift. Hokuto Matsuyama, curently third in the 2023 standings in his Toyota GR Supra also competes on Toyo rubber.
